Domaine de La Tour

In 1212, on the grounds of the Roman Villa Sancta Agatha, the Knights Templar built a defensive house, a commandery, in Saint-Chaptes on the rich soils of the left bank of the Gardon river.

800 years later, the main tower still stands over the estate which it bears the name.

Since the 13th century, the Domaine de La Tour has only been sold three times. It has been habited and loved by representatives of the most illustrious families of the Languedoc who have always been committed to his development and beautification.

The family that has owned the property since 1835 is committed to the preservation of this precious heritage and to the development of the wine estate.

A witness to the history of the Languedoc, the Domaine de La Tour is also a dynamic farm. For 4 generations now, the Guibal family has been making and marketing their wines with passion.

The vineyard entirely replanted with noble grape varieties in the 80's, allows the elaboration of two complementary ranges of wines: On the one hand, the noble wines AOP du Duché d’Uzès and on the other hand, wines of recognized grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier in IGP CévennesThe work of the vine and the breeding of the wine are particularly taken care of, since always each generation brings his stone there...

From the creation of the wine of the Duchy of Uzès to the birth of a appellation (AOP)

Since 1989, the winemakers of Uzège and Garrigues have been working to obtain accession to the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC).

The wine of the Duchy of Uzès is created and puts the emphasis on the elaboration of local wine with a view to a recognition of the appellation.

A long road, full of pitfalls and obstacles, full of hope and disappointment, which they have been able to overcome throughout these years.

It is in July 2013 that the decree officializing the AOC Duché d'Uzès appears.

This appellation, based on strict specifications, is not intended to make «quantities», but high-quality and high-quality wines. For this, we winegrowers have set many constraints, and our will has required heavy investments on the various farms.
